In Defence of the True Faith
About This Book
In Defence of the True Faith is an abridged English translation of the part of Ibn Kathir's Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah (The Beginning and the End) that deals with the battles, expeditions, and peace treaties of the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It follows the major events from the Battle of Badr to the Battle of Mu'tah.
Ibn Kathir (Abu al-Fida 'Imad ad-Deen Isma'eel bin 'Umar) is one of the best-known historians and Qur'an commentators in Islamic history, and Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah is regarded as a leading source on Islamic history. This abridgment concentrates on the military side of the Prophet's life: strategy in battle, the treatment of prisoners, treaties and diplomacy, and events described as signs of Allah's help to the believers. Many of these events are also referred to in the Qur'an.
