About This Book
Taqwiyat-ul-Iman (Strengthening of the Faith) was written by Shah Isma'il Shaheed, grandson of Shah Waliullah Dehlvi and a central figure of Islamic revival in the Indian subcontinent. Two centuries later it remains one of the most widely read works on Tawheed in South Asia.
The author wrote for Muslims whose belief in Allah's oneness was sound in theory but weakened in practice by customs taken from the surrounding culture. Vows to other than Allah, appeals at shrines and other practices are each examined and answered with a verse of the Qur'an or an authentic hadith. Written originally in Urdu for ordinary readers, it is direct and uncompromising in tone.
