About This Book

Commanding the good and forbidding the evil is a duty that Islam places on the Muslim community. This book explains that obligation and the sincerity it requires, and warns against those who take it up to show off, to gain a reputation, or for worldly benefit.

It also stresses that a person who calls others to good must practice it himself. To make this point, it cites a hadith narrated by Usamah ibn Zayd and recorded in the two Sahih collections, which describes the severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection of a man who commanded good without doing it and forbade evil while committing it.
