About This Book
The Disease & The Cure is Imam Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah's answer to a question about a man afflicted by a disease that, if it continued, would ruin his life. Starting from the hadith that Allah has not sent down a disease without also sending down its cure, the Imam explains that this applies to the heart and soul as well as the body.
He stresses that the health of the heart matters more than the health of the body: bodily health helps a person in this world, while a sound heart brings a good life here and lasting happiness in the Hereafter.
About the Author
Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah was born into a scholarly family in 691 AH (1292 CE) and studied in Damascus, then a center of learning, under the guidance of his father. He was especially influenced by his teacher Ibn Taymiyyah. He died in Damascus in 751 AH (1350 CE) and was buried in the Bab al-Saghir cemetery, near his father.
