About This Set
Tafsir Ibn Kathir, whose full title is Tafsir Al-Quran Al-Azim, was written by Al-Hafiz Abu Al-Fida' 'Imad Ad-Din Isma'il bin 'Umar bin Kathir (d. 774 AH) and is one of the most widely read commentaries on the Quran. It explains the verses through other verses, hadith, historical reports, and the statements of earlier scholars.
This English set is based on Al-Misbah Al-Munir fi Tahdhib Tafsir Ibn Kathir, an Arabic abridgment prepared over about two years by a team of scholars including Shaykh Safiur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri, which aims to leave out weak narrations and repetition. Authentic hadith are also given in Arabic with diacritics, topic headings have been added, and the verse translation follows Hilali and Muhsin Khan, adjusted where needed to fit the commentary.
