This is a complete English translation of al-Muwatta of Imam Malik ibn Anas, the great jurist of Madinah and founder of the Maliki school of Islamic law. The translation, by Professor M. Rahimuddin, is accompanied by extensive notes.

The Muwatta records the legal and social practice of the early Muslim community in Madinah. Imam Malik worked on it over a period of about forty years, and its title refers to the "well-trodden path." It is one of the earliest surviving collections of hadith and fiqh, and it is held in high regard by scholars across the schools of Islamic law.
