About This Book
In this short book, Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baz addresses ribaa (usury and interest). He affirms that all forms of ribaa are prohibited and responds to fatwas that allow some or most of the interest-based transactions found in modern financial institutions.
The book argues that economic strength does not depend on ribaa, that financial institutions can operate without it, and that calling it "interest" or "al-faa'idah" does not change its ruling. It also discusses the as-salam transaction, which it presents as permitted, and the limits of qiyaas (analogy) where texts from the Qur'an and Sunnah exist.
