Winning the Hearts & Souls

About This Book

Winning the Hearts & Souls is an abridged English translation drawn from Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah (The Beginning and the End), the history by the scholar Abu al-Fida 'Imad ad-Deen Isma'eel ibn 'Umar ibn Kathir. This volume focuses only on the expeditions and delegations that took place during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Carrying the message of Islam beyond Madinah was part of the Prophet's mission, and delegations were sent to many regions to invite people to the faith. The book retells these episodes, describes the kings and leaders who received the invitation, and shows how each of them responded. Together these events played a large part in the spread of Islam across Arabia and beyond. Ibn Kathir's work is counted among the leading references for Islamic history, which makes this volume a dependable way into the subject.
