Al-Qur'an: The Guidance for Mankind (Arabic-English)

About This Qur'an

Al-Qur'an: The Guidance for Mankind is an Arabic-English edition that renders the meanings of the Quran in contemporary American English. It contains the entire Arabic text of the Quran, along with a biography of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and a discussion of his mission as a prophet.

The translation avoids footnotes. Necessary explanations are worked into the English text in italic type, so they are clearly separate from the translated meanings while keeping the reader on the same line.

Key Features

• Field testing: according to the publisher, passages were tested for over three and a half years with new Muslim and non-Muslim high school and college students under the supervision of scholars, and reworded until readers understood them as the Arabic intends
• Simple language and a direct style
• No footnotes; explanations are included in italics within the text
• An outline before each surah covering its period of revelation, major issues, divine laws and guidance, plus a summary of the events that came before
• The publisher states the project began in 1991, with a first draft in 1994, and that the translation was reviewed by scholars in the United States and then sent to Al-Azhar in Egypt, Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, and the International Islamic University in Pakistan before publication
