About This Book

This book is a biography of Imam Aboo Dawood Sijistani (died 275 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, the compiler of Sunan Abu Dawud, one of the six major books of hadith. It describes a scholar who gave up worldly comfort and endured hardship to collect and preserve the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

It is part of a series of biographies of scholars of fiqh and hadith by Salaahud-Deen 'Ali Abdul Mawjood, which looks at their qualities, character, etiquette, religious practice and worship. In his preface, the author explains that he aimed for a length that is informative without being tiring, cited his sources without burdening the reader with long footnotes, relied on the judgment of major hadith scholars such as Adh-Dhahabi, and left out reports that critical scholars declared unreliable.
