About This Book
The Nature of Fasting is an English translation of a short work by Shaykh al-Islam Taqiuddin Ahmad bin 'Abdul-Halim Ibn Taymiyyah, known in Arabic as Haqiqatus-Siyam. It explains the finer points of fasting, in particular what breaks the fast, what does not, and the principles for telling the two apart.
According to the publisher's note, this Darussalam edition was revised against the source section in Majmu' al-Fatawa (25:219). Material that earlier publishers appear to have added from other parts of Ibn Taymiyyah's writings is marked with brackets, and brief references for the hadith have been added. The original translation was done by Ebrahim Aly Ma'rouf.
