About This Book

This book is a biography of Imam ash-Shawkani (1173H to 1250H), may Allah have mercy on him, the Yemeni scholar known for works such as Nayl al-Awtar. It describes his upbringing, his memorization of many texts at an early age before he began serious study, and his study of hadith under al-Hafiz Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Amir and many other teachers.

The book explains how he came to be recognized, by supporters and opponents alike, as a scholar of verification and a reference in ijtihad who could clarify the finer points of the Shariah.
