About This Book
This book is a biography of Imam Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Shihab Az-Zuhri (died 124 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, a leading narrator of hadith who spent his life protecting Islam and preserving a great number of hadith from the Prophet (peace be upon him). The book presents him as a model for scholars: generous, firm on the truth in difficult times, and not led astray when worldly wealth came his way.
It is part of a series of biographies of scholars and hadith narrators by Salaahud-Deen 'Ali Abdul Mawjood, covering the private and public sides of their lives, including character, manners, knowledge and worship. The author explains in his preface that he drew on reports recorded by trustworthy scholars such as Adh-Dhahabi, kept references brief, and avoided stories that the scholars rejected.
