Miswak-Siwak - The Natural Toothbrush

Miswak or Siwak, as it is usually referred to, has been used as an oral hygiene tool for thousands of years. Miswak is derived from a tree twig. Specifically, it is made from a plant named "Salvadore Persica". This plant widely grows in the areas of Middle East.

Although there is no direct reference to siwak in the Quran, numerous Ahadith (sayings of the prophet Muhammad) highly recommend the use of siwak or miswak as part of one's oral hygiene. Therefore, many Muslims, especially Arabs living in the Middle East use Miswak as part of their regular oral hygiene.

Salvadore Persica is also refered to as the toothbrush tree, which is no more than one foot in diameter. This tree is known to have as active substance Tritely Amine, Alkaloid, Chlorine, Fluoride, Saponin, Tannin, Resin, Sulfur, Vitamin C and Sterol. In Islamic and Middle Eastern cultures, these are known to be very beneficial in maintaining one's oral hygiene and health.

As always, one should consult their medical professionals for complete guidance on their oral health.
