Makkah or Mecca as it is usually referred to is Islam’s holiest city. In it is the al-Masjid al-Haram (The Sacred Mosque) that has Allah’s house. Mecca is also the capital city of Saudi Arabia's Makkah province. It has a population of around 1.3 million inhabitants. The city is located about 50 miles from Jeddah

Ka'bah (or Kaaba) lies within the Haram mosque. The Kaaba is the "House of Allah" and was rebuilt by Abraham (Ibraheem) and his son Ishmael (Ismaeel). The pilgrims circle the Ka'bah seven times and also try to touch or kiss its cornerstone, the Hajar Aswad/Black Stone. Within the Haram Mosque, pilgrims then drink from the well of Zamzam. Muslims believe that the water of Zamzam possess special properties and health benefits. Numerous pilgrims return from the Hajj with bottles of the Zamzam water.
