Did the Muslim women of the past deal with the same restrictions imposed on Muslim women today?
Some critics say that the tradition and perception surrounding abaya developed through time. Through the years, the purpose and the use of Abaya have evolved. A lot of women today, particularly in less developed Arab societies, appear humiliated, submissive, and blindly obedient to men. Women were gifted with a free personality, but men exploited her weakness. Certain men exploited emotional and mental factors to make women believe that they need to be weak and submissive to make a relationship work. However, opinion of the majority remains that Abaya is a womens choice that is conformity to their religion.
