The Abaya is a recognized sign of being a Muslim. Because Westerners typically dont encounter a lot of women who wear Abaya, it garners a lot of attention. When they see a woman wearing a cloak and a headscarf, they immediately conclude that she is Muslim. The modern Abaya might not receive as much notice, but the black one that covers the head to the toe still gets a lot of glances.
